Andy Small is a fine arts major whose contemporary flower photography could astonish anyone with such fine detail and color. He is one of the United Kingdom’s most important flower photographers as well. His inspiration comes from a garden he created with his wife, where he discovered the life behind the macro lens. He describes his love for the remarkable detail, shapes and patterns of flowers. His passion is with nature, and photography helps him bring this out. Andy states, “I am fascinated by the intricate structure and design found in nature and my photography celebrates this diverse but orderly world that sometimes goes unnoticed.” Anyone can find his photography at many shows and exhibitions throughout the year.
The immense about of vibrant color Andy Small uses in his work is incredible. Not only do I love flower photography, but this takes it to another level I have never seen before. The colors stand out, not just in the flowers themselves, but also in the backgrounds and other themes of the photos. No longer is the flower just any old flower, but he transforms them into masterpieces that I can’t take my eyes off of. This work inspires me as a photographer by telling me to take what I have to another level. I put emphasis on color in my nature photography because the true color is beautiful. Andy puts even more color into his work with personalized backgrounds. I think this idea is quite creative. Most people would just suspect a flower picture to have its natural background, but this is the contemporary outlook.
